Birth With Spirit training is intensive and purposefully builds towards full autonomy as a birth and/or postpartum care provider. But "autonomous" does not mean "alone." Unlike other doula training programs, Birth With Spirit provides ongoing continuity of care for our doulas through advanced trainings, peer reviews, access to experienced doulas for assistance, an extensive lending library, watch parties, and weekend retreats.

Birth With Spirit Doulas are trained in the Midwifery Model of Care which includes informed consent, upstream care, and evidence-based care. We walk with you from the very first step and on into your active practice with study groups, Peer Review, continuing education, and apprenticeship opportunities.

We support our community by offering one full training scholarship per Retreat. This scholarship includes all training and Retreat fees, and is available for someone with circumstances that make accessing our doula trainings otherwise impossible. We also offer payment plans and small sliding scales for those with circumstances that would make accessing our trainings difficult. While anyone may apply, to address inequities in our system, special consideration is given to People of Color and LGBTQIA+. To apply, please email birthwithspirit@gmail.com for an application.
What's Included When You Register to Become a Birth With Spirit Doula?

Lifetime Certification
In the spirit of accessibility, we allow two full years from your date of registration to complete the requirements to become a Birth With Spirit Certified Doula.
Birth With Spirit also supports access and equality by never charging licensing packet fees or yearly membership fees.​
Ancient & Cultural Wisdom:
Time-tested traditions and holistic practices enrich our teachings and help nurture mind, body, and spirit.

Private Voxer Group
For ongoing, real-time support, we use Voxer, a free, walkie-talkie app that allows members to share birth stories, ask questions, offer support and guidance.
CEUs/Relicensing Requirements
To maintain Birth With Spirit certification, our Doulas need 18 CEUs every five years after initial certification. We support this process by offering free and/or reduced-fee advanced trainings as well as scholarships for other advanced trainings.​​​

Self-Paced, Online Training
Once registered, you will have access to our Whole Person Learning Academy where you will obtain all the modules to complete your Birth With Spirit Doula training and certification.

Birth With Spirit Retreats
You will have the opportunity to join us LIVE or virtually to further your knowledge and expertise.

Deep Midwife-Created Protocols
All of the training offered within Birth With Spirit are midwife-created and come out of a quarter-of-a-century of practice.

Birthworker Study Nights
We offer study nights at The Well for all birthworkers that include coffee, tea, goodies, books and other study aids. It's more fun to study with friends, both old and new!
Access to Our Ever-Growing Library
Our BWS lending library lives at The Well in Kettering, Ohio and is a great resource for all our Doulas. Some books are wonderful to have in your own library for your own reference and for your clients, but it's helpful to be able to read a book you don't want to own without having to purchase it.

Quarterly Peer Review Facilitated by a Midwife
We offer Peer Review which no other doula certifications offer. Peer Review is a tightly closed, facilitated circle of professional birthworkers and student birthworkers wherein we share a birth story and then discuss as a learning opportunity for all.

Discounted Prices for Advanced Trainings
Birth With Spirit doulas are lifelong learners, and love continuing their learning past the initial certifying process. We offer discounted prices to our BWS Doulas to encourage this and enrich our powerful circle of knowledge.

Meet the Creator Of Birth With Spirit Doula Certification Training
At the heart of Birth With Spirit Doula Certification Training is April Kline who has been deeply committed to walking alongside families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum for over 24 years as a Certified Professional Midwife, massage therapist, Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Consultant, and CranioSacral Therapist.

Utilizing the Midwifery Model of Care as a framework, April poured all of the knowledge and experience of almost a quarter of a decade working with mothers, babies and families, into a doula training that is truly one-of-a-kind.
